Two Thoughts About Star Wars But I Guess The First Is About the Vibe-Form of A Franchise Under Unified Corporate Direction Vs Something More Scattershot (If It Even Was More Scattershot)

  1. When you have multiple layers of canon, or whatever, and low enough coordination that different works can contradict each other, and ultimately that can be all ignored by One Man With a Beard can step back in and just make another movie that contradicts everything else (including parts of other movies he’s made?), and now everyone else has to reorient around that…in what ways does that differ from a corporate owner whose very business model has shaped legal ideas of ownership, where that entire apparatus is focused on a consistently rational product, where the entire mass of product must accrete until everything is just a commercial for something else, until creative destruction mandates a remix
  2. You really don’t think that Leia kissing Luke has any actual romantic meaning, do you? There is no love triangle there, they don’t get a theme, come on, Luke doesn’t even realize it’s all about Han. The camera does.
