(Autumn, from the Ranged Touch Discord, encouraged people to play snowy games in January and February and write about them. I used this opportunity to motivate my return to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories a game whose snowy town and chases have stuck with me for 15+ years. Also, I wanted to play it again before I played _Immortality_).
My first Snowuary, on Mafia II
three types of sections
- psychologist office – Mean therapist
- exploration – no threats – but it builds tension via aesthetic modes other than the threat to the PC and the threat to the player’s progress: audio and visual
- the chases – completely lose any sense of space except for the next door or ledge or light that guides you along a path. Feel like maybe you’ve gotten turned around but just keep going. Then everything twists back to normal and you check your map and there’s no real sense of how you got to here from where you were. During there is a waypoint you are headed toward and the path you’ve gone is on your phone’s GPS but who has time to check that when there are now, finally, monsters chasing you?
it’s called Midwich High School! founded by John Wyndham!
sorry this one’s just some notes
